Art Star Magazine sits down with Jack Bingle:

AS.: How long have you been making music?

Personally, I've been playing drums for six years. Some guitar here and
there, but nothing serious. As Intermission, we have been making
music together since earl February, 2005.

A.S. - What dose music mean to you?

Music is self-expression. To us, music is life. We're not the type that
can just go to college after High School. None of that appeases us and
I personally don't want college. Music is the one opportunity we've got.
We have to take advantage of it. Sure, we'll hold low-paying jobs to
support it until it gets off the ground, but everyone starts somewhere.
The cool part is, there is no limit to how high up the totem pole you can
get.

A.S. - What type of genre would you consider yourself, if any, and
why?

Alternative Rock/Funk. We are quite versatile. We used to classify
ourselves as Alternative Indie Rock. But, all "indie" means is that you're
not signed to a major label. So, that has nothing to do with our sound.

A.S. - What have been your influences over the years?

So many people and bands have influenced us. The Beatles, Led
Zeppelin, Queen. Newer bands like Dave Matthews Band, Matchbox
Twenty, etc. We listen to so many things that it's no surprise that what
comes out of us is something a bit different from everything else
people play.

A.S. - Have you toured yet this year or are you planning on touring
anytime in the near future?

We just got back from a decent set of out-of-town shows. We went to
Portland, Oregon and played with (now broken-up) Arrows For Eros.
We also hit Astoria, Oregon to play the Eagles Club where we had a
turnout of about 150 kids. The only thing was is that the show was a
punk/hardcore show. Astonishingly enough, people still liked our
music. Some even had us autograph shirts, CDs, and band pictures.

We are currently setting up a small tour to help promote our CD and
are going to be hitting it big starting in either December or the early part
of next year.

A.S. - When is your next show?
? (Give all details!!)

October 14th, 2005 is our CD Release Party. It's going to be one for the
history books. We'll be having Silhouette come in to do a light show.
The bands that are playing before us, Scarletta and Blane, will be
rocking out to different styles to get everyone psyched up. We'll have
Sean Flikke (local solo artist, also signed to Power Records) playing a
short acoustic set in between the first two bands. He's bringing along a
friend to play a set in between the second band and us. The show is
going to rock from beginning to end.

A.S. - What would you like to say for other local artists such as
yourself?

Don't listen to all the critics. Listen to and play whatever you feel like
doing. No press is bad press.

I've loved listening to all the people bash on mainly Coretta Scott. The
FACTS are; Coretta Scott worked their asses off to get to where they
are. I've talked with members of the band and they are all really cool
people. They are easy to talk to. Some people call them sell-outs. I love
how this happens to any band who does something with their lives. CS
has great music and I personally enjoy listening to it. I've bought their
album that recently came out entitled "Scream & Shout." I didn't mean
to rant, but it's things like critics who anger me. I'd like to see them get
out and do what bands like them are doing.

As far as anything else... I've recently adopted a saying, "Keep the
dream alive." I'm starting to use it when I e-mail people in other bands
and such. It's all about music. I could be found at pretty much any style
of show at any given time. It's our band's life. Music is what you make it,
and you can't allow people to tell you how to do it. Don't change up your
style just for people. Keep true to yourself.

A.S. - Tell me something about yourself that you think people should
or would like to know….

Intermission is not just about their music. We put on shows and help
other bands out as much as possible as well. I (Jack Bingle) started
booking shows for both local and out of town acts. I've had the
pleasure of bringing through The Stiletto Formal, Lydia, and Forgive
Durden. By no means am I applauding myslef, but this is a prime
example of where my heart lies. Music isn't about a single person or
group, it's about everyone.

A.S. - How long have you been playing music?

I've been playing for six years. Cory has been playing guitar for about
10 years that I know of. He and I played together in 7th grade, where
we played our first show wich was a talent show at Northwood

A.S. - Do you write your own lyrics?
?Are you always happy with them?
?Do you ever change them and then finalize them?

Cory has written all the lyrics to the songs we have already. That's
mainly because I haven't been bold enough to step up to the plate and
excersize my own.

Cory's lyrics are very good lyrics. Some of mine are and some aren't.
It's just the way writing goes though. I do change my lyrics, but I would
prefer to just write a masterpiece all the way through without having to
change it. But, things happen and you sometimes have to make
changes. And no, we're not always happy with our lyrics.

A.S. - How do you think you perform live?

Our performance is not that of a professional band quite yet. But, we're
working on that. I'd like to be more active on the stage. We've found that
we think we're active, but we go back and look at tapes to find that we
look like we just sway in the wind and stare at the crowd. This CD
Release Party is going to be highly stepped up though. We've got many
different things going down. It's not a show that you should miss. You'll
hear about it from your friends if you do.

A.S. - What do you like top provide the audience with?

Our expression is what we provide mostly through us to our audience.
As we stated above, we're working on our stage pressence and
movement. But, you can have the greatest stage pressence in the
world, but if you're music is crap, no one will care.

A.S. - Do you have a web site or some type of way people can contact
you at?

Yes. www.IntermissionRock.com or www.myspace.
com/intermissionrocks our main accounts. You can find us on Pure
Volume and Bandspace.com, but there are a couple other bands out
there called Intermission. One's from Madrid, and one sounds.. well..
I'll let you decide. Their from Alabama or Oklahoma or something.

A.S. - Do you currently have any merch?

Yes, we have 2 girl's t-shirt designs as well as 5 guys designs. We're
running out, so everyone get some at the CD Release Party on October
14th at Fat Tuesday's so we can get a re-order ours to you!

A.S. - If you don’t would you like me to provide a local clothing artist
that might be of any help to you?

We do have merch, but let us know and we'll definately look into it.
We're open for ideas.

A.S. - Do you have an album out, currently?

"Intermission" is coming out on Ocober 14th. We'll be releasing it at
our CD Release Party at Fat Tuesday's Concert Hall located at 109 W.
Pacific in downtown Spokane. The CD will feature a number of songs
that hit many different styles of rock and funk. Go check it out!

A.S. - How do you begin your writing process?

Sometimes Cory has a song written and then we mold it in the studio.
Sometimes it's a random jam that we put structure to. There are many
different ways it can come about, but all are highly efficient and make
us happy.

A.S. - What would you want people to take from your music?

Want? We want them to hear it, mainly. If you like it, than thanks! We
appreciate anyone who likes what we do. Our music is our world to us,
so listen and hear what we are.

A.S. - What influences you as a musician?

Other musicians. My cousin Josh Bingle is a great drummer. I learned
quite a bit from him. Another cousin of mine is in a Seattle based band
called Maktub. Davi(d/s) is his name. He's quite the drummer. Never
too much, Never too little. Just the right amount of taste. I Don't believe
drummers should be show offs. I've never thought of myself to hold
that much refined skill as far as that goes. But, I do believe I have taste
in what I play. Why, for instance, would a drummer play all over the set
to show off his skill, when a typical rock beat will work just fine?

A.S. - Where do you want to be in the future with music as a whole,
and/or where do you see yourself going?

We're going to ride this puppy as far as it'll take us! It's going to be a
fun and bumpy ride. There will be sacrifices made and hardships to go
through. But, we plan to come out on top of it all and make our name
known. When ther is something that is all you have, you'll do anything
to grasp a hold of it and take it as your own. We'd love to make it big. If
it doesn't happen, it doesn't happen. But, we won't let ourselves have
the chance to look back and be able to say that we didn't do our best.
We're on our way, and we'd love to have anyone who wants to be with
us along for the ride. As good as music gets, it's nothing without the
people that listen to it.
